S. Caterina e la VALFURVA

S. Caterina is a wonderful mountain-town set in the heart of the Alps at an altitude of mt. 1738, it lies in the Ortles - Cevedale mountain range, surrounded by the proteced area of the Stelvio National Park.

It is not easy to find another area with such a list of praticable activities. Alta Valtellina offers: snow and skiing all year long; in the winter and in the summer a tradition of thermal water cures lasting since men set here; trekking and mountaineering adventures in the land where this practice has born and developed; lots of tempting sport and fun activities; typical productions of fine local craft; the hospitality of a land that had many famous guests during its thousands of years of history.

If the Stelvio pass is the summer skiing paradise, Valfurva is the land of ski-mountaineering. Its peaks, at 4000mt., are the joy of climbers in the summer and of people that love ski-mountaineering in the spring. Today the Ortles-Cevedale mountain range has the biggest glaciar in Europe, among the hymalaian types, the 'Forni' glacier. And the mountain range is the biggest in Europe for ski-moutaineering activities.

And what can we say about the green fields and the 90 square km of woods, protected by the biggest national park of Italy?!

Santa Caterina Valfurva is the starting point for all that, and even more! We cannot forget to tell you about the most important among our resources: skiing. Santa Caterina offers wonderful slopes, always with lots of 'white powder'.
On the ski trail 'Debora Compagnoni' (which ends at 30ft. from the hotel) have been held the Downhill World Championships 2005.
S. Caterina is also very famous for its fantastic cross country skiing trail, where every year are held World Cup competitions.
